A fragment of a ‘Kasen-e’ depicting Saigū no Nyōgo Kishi. ‘Kasen-e’ is a traditional Japanese style portrait which depicting prominent poets known as ‘Kasen: immortal poets’ accompanied by their representative waka poem.
Regarding ‘kasen-e,’ it has been known that one volume formerly owned by the Dan family and one volume formerly owned by the Masuda family (both known as famous Japanese collectors), as well as a fragment owned by Tokyo University of the Arts. However it has since been discovered that they have been further fragmented and are held by multiple families. This work is the one from the Masuda family collection.
