Buddhist Verse for the Monk Ning  by Tuigeng Dening

This scroll was written by Tuigeng Dening at the request of a Monk named Ning, and is a religious verse recited at a sermon in the lecture hall at the Wanshou Temple in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, on the winter solstice of 1262. Tuigeng Dening was one of the disciples of Wuzhun Shifan and later promoted to the position of 42nd chief priest of LingyinTemple, one of the five official temples (temples whose abbots are appointed by the government) which are regarded as the highest-ranking Zen temples.

Formerly owned by famous Japanese collector, Masuda Don’noh.
