Lead Glazed White Jar
- H 11.9cm
- High – Middle Tang
Jar with white clay covered with low-fired lead transparent glaze. Two different types of white jars based on different techniques were created in the Tang dynasty, namely a high-fired transparent ash known as a white porcelain jar and a low-fired transparent glaze known as a lead glazed white jar. Both white jars are glazed inside, while three color lead glaze jars are mostly unglazed inside. Was there a practical reason for interior glazing? Given that regardless of firing techniques white surface jars had interior glazing, was there some specific reason for this interior glazing, possibly because they were white, or for some reason in their usage in real life or as grave goods?
