No.21069

Cup with ring handle on globular body with slightly everted rim and slightly concaved round base. There are many similar examples, not only white porcelain but also including three color lead glaze ware, but there are few examples such carefully made as this work. While the handles of many pieces are simply flat rings made by die-cutting them, this work has carefully chamfered edges. In addition, a leaf-shaped applied design is attached on the base of the handle which seems to look like the washer decoration on the handle of a metal works. This shape is originally not of the pottery, but rather a copy of a metal vessel. There are many shapes of white porcelain imitating the shape of metal wares and this is one of them. According to the archaeological report on excavated materials from datable tombs, it can be found that first, metal works were excavated from tombs at the end of the 7th century, and then white porcelain imitating these metal works were excavated in the 8th century.
