  • Yaozhou Ware, H 6.6cm MD 18.0㎝ BD 8.0㎝
  • Five Dynasties -Northern Song Dynasty, 10-11th century
No.21051

This is a foliate rim bowl with a five-petal rim spreading from a large, shallow foot. The white slip extends to the edge of the foot. The celadon glaze covers overall both inside and outside, even to the base and the inside of the foot, with three sand traces on the base of the foot. The bowl is lighter than expected.
This type of bowl has been found at the Huangpu kiln site, which has been designated a Five Dynasties Yaozhou kiln in the Archaeological reports published by the Institute of Archaeology, Shaanxi Province and the Yaozhou Museum. Of the various types of five-petal foliate rim bowls reported from the Huangpu kiln site, the Institute and the Museum positioned this type of bowls in the earlier stage of the Five Dynasties.
On the other hand, similar examples can be excavated from the tomb thought to be from the end of 10th century through around the 11th century based on comparison with the datable tomb data.
