White -Slip Celadon Bowl with Incised Scroll Pattern

  • Yaozhou Ware H 7.7㎝ MD 18.1㎝ BD 6.5㎝
  • Five Dynasties -Northern Song Dynasty, 10-11th century
No.21056

Celadon bowl covered with white-slip on the blackish body decorated inside with incised scroll design. The celadon glaze covers overall to both inside and outside, even the base and the inside of the foot. The base of the foot is covered with coarse grains of sand in addition to three sand traces.
Large number of items with white slip underglaze with incised decoration have been excavated from the Huangpu kiln site that the Institute of Archaeology, Shaanxi Province and Yaozhou Kilns Museum considered to be Five Dynasties Yaozhou kiln. While various shapes are reported, some of them are similar in shape, size and decoration motifs to this work. Hence, this bowl may be a product of the Hunagpu kiln. The archaeological report from Huangpu dates this type of bowl to the end of the Five Dynasties period. On the other hand, the report dates the type of bowls, on which foot base made with care so as not to leave any grains of sand, to the beginning of the Five Dynasties period, even though they are similar types of white slip wares.
