In 1253, the regent Hojo Tokiyori established Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura with Lanxi as its founder, and Lanxi had earned the deep trust of Tokiyori. The calligraphy contains a prayer for the peaceful continuation of the reign of Tokiyori’s son, the regent Tokimune (1251-84).
